Barry Melnkovic joined U. S. Steel in May 2017 as vice president and chief human resources officer.  In this role, he is responsible for all facets of the company’s human resources and labor relations organizations. 


Previously he served as executive vice president and chief human capital officer for National Railroad Passenger Corporation / Amtrak, as well as serving as an officer and member of the company’s executive committee.  During his tenure, Mr. Melnkovic developed and executed Amtrak’s human and labor relations strategies for the company’s large workforce, established an enterprisewide lean six sigma function and a culture of continuous improvement.
